Riesling and Sardines

Christman qba 2008 Riesling – Marinated Sardines

City Wine shop

We visited the city Wine Shop for our anniversary, and finally managed to move past the pickled onions and cheese as an accompaniment for our wine. Instead we chose the marinated sardines, recommended to us by many officianados, and selected a 2008 German Riesling from Christman as well as a 2007 French Sancerre from Champault to go with it.
The Riesling was tart and spritzy, with a hint of sweetness at the end of the palette while the Sancerre was light and fresh, with a tendency to evaporate in your mouth. Both of these 8/10.

We tried a few other wines over the course of the evening, one of the benefits of a restaurant that sells fine wines by the glass.

  • Terrravechia biancalunga 2008 Falanghina Puglia ITA – 8/10
  • Hirtzberger donagarten 2008 gruner veltliner Wachau AUT – 7/10
  • Rockford Frugal Farmer 2008 Grenache/Mataro – Barossa Valley AUS – 6/10
